Pumpkin spice lattes and Halloween aren’t the only reasons we’re excited for October here at West Virginia Central Federal Credit Union. It’s National Credit Union Month!
Before West Virginia Central Federal Credit Union, there were years of history behind the nationwide development of these institutions. New Hampshire saw America’s first credit union in 1909, and by 1934, Franklin D. Roosevelt signed the Federal Credit Union Act into law.
Historically, credit unions have maintained a people-helping-people mentality, with their services and options centered on benefiting the community. In light of the Great Depression, lower interest rates and institutional support from credit unions rivaled the widespread distrust of national banking systems. West Virginia Central Federal Credit Union passes the torch and upholds the mission on which credit unions were initially founded.
