Stuff the Bus

Last year, through your support, WVCCU was able to provide funds to over 750 local teachers.
One of those teachers was Jackson Elementary School art teacher, Kay Mason. She told WTAP News that she uses her Stuff the Bus funds to purchase items that aren’t covered by her school’s supply allotment.
“Year after year, we get a school allotment, but it usually stays the same. And of course, everything goes up [in cost], so you get less,” Mason said. “I use [the Stuff the Bus money] for our Positive Behavior rewards system.”
Helping area teachers provide classroom supplies like behavior rewards is exactly why Stuff the Bus was started by WVCCU in 2011, when we took over the program from its founder, Old Man Rivers Mission.
“We like to operate under the philosophy of people helping people,” WVCCU CEO, Mike Tucker said. “We strive to support efforts that benefit our community, and especially ones that are supportive of our young people. When we took over Stuff the Bus, it was with a desire to reduce the burden on local teachers who spend their own money to supply items to students.
“We believe that these donations have made a real difference over the last decade, and we’re all extremely proud of the support we’ve received from our members, public officials, local businesses, staff, and our community.”
